KSU vs. Monmouth: Preview and How to Watch

This is it. The Big South Conference Championship is on the line Saturday when the Kennesaw State Owls host the Monmouth Hawks. This will be the first time in Big South history that two teams with a 6-0 conference record will meet in a winner-take-all championship game on the final week of the season. Monmouth has beaten KSU the last two seasons, which has led to them being back-to-back Big South Champions.

KSU (9-1, 6-0 Big South Conference) has won eight consecutive games and come into Saturday’s contests ranked No. 5 in the country. After 11 weeks of play, the Owls rank in the top five in multiple FCS categories, including first in fourth-down conversion (85%), second in passing yards per completion (17.5), third in red zone defense (63%) and fourth in rushing yards per game (255.9 yards per game).

Owls quarterback Xavier Shepherd is making his case to win the Walter Payton Award. Shepherd ranks second in the FCS in rushing touchdowns (15) ranks first in the Big South in total points scored (90).

Defensively, the Owls are led by linebacker Evan Thompson who has the third-most tackles in the conference with 89. He has helped the Owls rank first in the conference in total defense (309.8 yards per game) and scoring defense (18.3 points per game).

Monmouth (7-3, 6-0) enters the game with the best scoring offense in the conference (33.7). Quarterback Tony Muskett has thrown for 2,314 yards and 24 touchdowns this season while running back Juwon Farri has recorded 689 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. After losing to Princeton in early October, the Hawks have won four consecutive games and scored at least 34 points in each of those games.
