We’re in the final month of the season, and the Kennesaw State Owls are ranked No. 8 in the country. This weekend, the Owls will travel to Moon Township, Pennsylvania to face the Robert Morris Colonials who have won the last seven games at their home stadium. This will be the second time the two programs have met with the first meeting resulting in a 35-0 victory for KSU back in the spring.
The last time the Owls (7-1, 4-0 Big South Conference) have lost a game was in September against Georgia Tech. They are coming off a 34-30 win over Gardner-Webb, and quarterback Xavier Shepherd threw for four touchdowns. While Robert Morris will be aware of Shepherd’s ability to air it out, his running ability will be the Colonials’ main focus. Shepherd has scored 12 rushing touchdowns this season and leads the Big South Conference in total points scored (72).
The Owls defense has been strong all year, and linebacker Evan Thompson has played a big role in the team’s success. He tied a school record for total tackles in a game last week with 16 and currently ranks third in the Big South with 69 tackles. Through eight games, the Owls rank second in the FCS in red zone defense (59.1%).
Robert Morris (3-4, 2-3) is coming off a 38-35 victory over Hampton. Quarterback George Martin threw for 315 yards and two touchdowns in the win while running back Alijah Jackson ran for 127 yards and one touchdown. Defensive lineman Ricardo Watson will be a player to watch as he ranks fourth in the Big South Conference in sacks with four.
