Kennesaw State rushed for 343 yards on Saturday night en route to a 31-10 victory of Wofford. The Owls have now won eight consecutive FCS road games, and head coach Brian Bohannon earned his 30th career non-conference win.
After the scoreless first quarter, KSU (2-1) got on the board first with a Nathan Robertson 23-yard field goal. That drive was made possible when Cole Loden intercepted a Wofford pass, and the KSU went on a 10-minute drive. The Owls ended the half with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Xavier Shepherd to Caleb O’Neal to increase the lead to 10. Early in the third, Kyle Glover scored on a 29-yard run to give the Owls the 17-0 lead. Glover led all rushers with 116 yards on 18 carries.
At the start of the fourth quarter, the Owls had the 17-3 lead. But that lead was increased when Iaan Cousin scored on a 33-yard pass from Shepherd. Wofford (1-1) quickly answered with an Irvin Mulligan 1-yard touchdown run, but KSU put the game away when Shepherd scored on the ensuing drive, running for a 56-yard touchdown. Shepherd ended the night with 75 passing yards, 108 rushing yards and three total touchdowns. Preston Daniels also had a big day on the ground, rushing for 82 yards on 17 carries.
KSU has a bye next week and will then get ready for a non-conference game against Jacksonville State at Fifth Third Bank Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 3 p.m. After losing to UAB, Jacksonville State has won its last two games, including a major upset victory over Florida State.
