Owls Fail to Qualify for FCS Playoffs, Season Officially Ends

The 2021 spring season is officially over for the Kennesaw State Owls. On Sunday, the NCAA Division I Football Championship Committee announced the 16 teams who will compete in the 2020 Division I Football Championship, and KSU failed to make the cut. This comes one week after the Owls lost to Monmouth 42-17 in the final game of the season.

KSU needed to win against Monmouth despite finishing the year with a 4-1 record and 3-1 in the Big South Conference. Monmouth clinched the conference title with the win and will face Sam Houston in the first round of the playoffs on Saturday, April 24. This is the first time since 2016, the Owls will not compete in postseason play.

With the spring season over, KSU will move forward as they are only less than five months away from the start of the 2021 fall season. They will kick off the year on September 4 when they host Reinhardt University. The Owls have a huge game on September 11 when they take on Georgia Tech for the first time in school history. Another notable game on the 2021 fall schedule is Jacksonville State on October 2. The last time the two teams went to battle was in 2017 when the Owls defeated Jacksonville State five-time overtime thriller 60-52.
