Owls March North and Claim the Big South Championship with Win Over Monmouth

West Long Branch, NJ – Kennesaw State University claims their second straight Big South championship with a 51-14 win over the Monmouth Hawks on Saturday.  Darnell Holland and the Owls defense claim co-MVP’s on the day with their performance at Kessler Stadium.

The Owls improved their record to 9-1 with a perfect 5-0 record in the Big South by beating the Hawks who are now 7-3 for the season and 3-1 in the conference.

KSU’s running back Darnell Holland had a career day with 195-yards rushing with three scores on the ground.  The Owls ended up having 502 total yards of offense with 412 of those coming on the ground.   The Owls also had success in the air.

Chandler Burks took to the air by going 6 for 11 for 90-yards. As usual Burks also had a great day with his feet by carrying the ball 16-times that added up to 54-yards with three touchdowns. The defensive numbers were also off the charts.

Charlie Patrick led the Owls with 14-tackles, 11 of them solo tackles and two were for loss.

With this victory the Owls get ready to head to Sun Trust Park in Atlanta for their next game which is against #7 Jacksonville State. This game will be at 3pm on Saturday the 17th.
