Wednesday marked the first day of the December Early Signing Day Period and Kennesaw State Owls head coach Brian Bohannon announced the signing of six players including five players from outside the state of Georgia.
“I can’t express how excited we are as a staff to announce this great group of young men joining us on National Signing Day,” said Bohannon per KSUOwls.com. “I want to thank each member of our staff for the hard work they put in to bring these young men to Kennesaw State. It’s a tribute to this University and everything going on here that we’re able to bring this caliber of student-athletes here.”
Here’s a look at the six players
WR Will Haigler – Florida HS, Tallahassee, Florida
OL Zion Katina – Independence HS, Franklin Tennessee
DE Tyler Moore – Central HS, Phenix City, Alabama
DB Markeith Montgomery – Ridgeland HS, Chickamauga, Georgia
LB Chance Bates – Colbert County HS, Leighton, Alabama
OL Kelcy Allen – Glenwood School, Phenix City, Alabama
Haigler was named 2017 Receiver of the Year by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club. He recorded 50 receptions for 791 yards and six touchdowns. Katina was a two-year starter on the offensive line at Independence and he helped his team record a 41-12 record in four seasons.
Moore was named First Team All Bi-City his senior campaign. He was also awarded the SportVision Defensive Award and named to the All-Area Second Team in 2017. Montgomery was named to the All-State team his junior year and was named Class AAAA Region 6 Player of the Year as a senior. He can also play running back and rushed for 1,300 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2017.
Bates is a two-time Class 3A Region 8 Defensive Player of the Year and he was also named Colbert County Most Valuable Linebacker twice. He was also named to the All-State team. Allen was a First Team All-Bi-City selection
