KENNESAW, Ga. — The Kennesaw State football team, which just completed a successful eight-win season that saw the Owls come within one win of a Big South Conference title, have released the 2017 schedule. The Owls are set for 11 games, including six at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
Kennesaw State opens the 2017 season on Thursday, August 31 at Samford, while the home opener at Fifth Third Bank Stadium is slated for the following Saturday (Sept. 9) versus Tennessee Tech.
The Owls non-conference schedule also includes home games versus North Greenville (Sept. 30) and Texas Southern (Oct. 7) and road games at Alabama State (Sept. 16) and Montana State (Nov. 4).
“We’re excited for what should be a very challenging schedule in 2017,” said head coach Brian Bohannon. “We will certainly test our football team with two road games in the first three weeks, including the season-opener at Samford – a playoff team this season. It’s a schedule that should prepare us well for the Big South Conference. I know our team is anxious to get back to work and build on what we accomplished this season.”
In just its second year as a program, Bohannon led Kennesaw State to an 8-3 record and 3-2 mark in Big South play. The Owls improved on their inaugural season by two wins overall and joined Old Dominion as the only Division-I programs to post winning records in each of the program’s first two years (since 2008).
Each of KSU’s six non-conference games are against first-time opponents and includes a pair of playoff squads – Division-I Samford (7-5) and Division-II North Greenville (9-5). Big South foe Charleston Southern also reached the FCS Playoffs.
Liberty on the road at Williams Stadium marks the Big South Conference opener on Oct. 14, with the conference home opener Oct. 21 versus Gardner-Webb. Home games versus Charleston Southern (Nov. 11) and Monmouth (Nov. 18) and a road tilt at Presbyterian (Oct. 28) complete the conference loop.
Season tickets for the 2017 campaign are now on sale for $99, plus your Owls Fund donation. Renewals for current season-ticket holders will be sent in early January with a deadline of March 15. New season-ticket holders will have their seats allocated in April.
